Privacy Policy
Pausa has no account, no analytics, and no tracking.
What happens on your phone stays on your phone.
If we can't see your data, we can't lose it, sell it, or leak it.
The short version
Pausa puts a daily time budget on the apps you choose and enforces it all day, with an optional evening window for the feeds you want quiet at night. Everything the app needs to do this — your budgets and settings, your daily usage and history, your Pausa Score, which app is currently on screen — is read and stored only on your device.
There is no sign-up, no email, no profile, no advertising, and no analytics SDK. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal data. There are no exceptions.
What Pausa accesses locally
- App usage events — Pausa reads which app is in the foreground, using Android's Usage Access. This is how it knows when to show the pause screen and how much time you've spent in an app today. These events are processed on the device and never transmitted anywhere.
- Your list of launchable apps — Pausa checks which apps are installed so you can choose any of them — feeds, games, browsers, anything — to put on a budget. The list never leaves the device.
- Your settings and history — your daily budgets, the apps you've chosen, your evening window, strict-mode preference, and your usage history, Pausa Score, and statistics are stored in the app's private local storage. A weekly backup file is written to the app's own storage on your device, so your history can survive certain failures. It is never uploaded.
No exceptions any more
Earlier versions of Pausa (up to 2.0.1) included a seven-day trial and a one-time purchase handled by Google Play Billing, with purchase validation by RevenueCat. Those versions transmitted an anonymous app identifier and a Google Play purchase token when the purchase screen was opened.
Pausa is now free, and transmits nothing at all. There is no purchase screen, no validation call, and no network request of any kind. The purchase-handling code remains in the app but is never run.
If you bought Pausa before it became free, the anonymous purchase record held by RevenueCat can still be deleted on request — write to the address below.
Why Pausa asks for what it asks for
Usage Access
Required to detect which app is on screen, so Pausa can enforce your daily budgets and evening window at the right time and count how long you've spent in each app today. Read locally, never transmitted.
Display over other apps
Required to show the calm pause screen when you reach an app whose budget is spent, or one that's quiet during your evening window.
Run in the background / foreground service
Required so your daily budgets and evening window keep working when Pausa isn't open. The persistent notification you see is Android's requirement for this kind of service.
Notifications
Used only for the service status and time-limit warnings you've configured. Pausa sends no marketing or engagement notifications, ever.
Deleting your data
Because everything lives on your device, deletion is simple: uninstalling Pausa removes all of it — settings, history, statistics, and local backups.
The anonymous purchase record held by RevenueCat can be deleted on request: contact us at the address below and we will submit the deletion to RevenueCat. Note that deleting it may prevent restoring your purchase on a new device.
Children's privacy
Pausa is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone — children included, by design.
Changes to this policy
If Pausa's data practices ever change — for example, if a future version adds an optional online feature — this policy will be updated before that version ships, and the change will be clearly described in the app's release notes. The effective date at the top always reflects the latest revision.
